Food aid distribution points of food banks in the Czech Republic

The Czech Federation of Food Banks has completed its three-year "Food Assistance Distribution Centers" project, which has significantly expanded access to food assistance across the Czech Republic. The original goal of establishing 150 distribution centers was far exceeded—today, there are already 261 distribution centers operating in every region of the country.

Since the project’s launch in 2023, the distribution centers have helped a total of 47,644 people in difficult life situations. Through the network, more than 1.18 million aid packages were distributed, and nearly 5,907 tons of rescued food reached those in need.

Food aid is primarily intended for single parents, families with children, seniors, people with disabilities, and households at risk of poverty. Families with young children account for 63% of all aid recipients. Decisions on aid allocation are made by social workers and partner organizations, who are well acquainted with the situation of individual clients and are able to direct aid where it is truly needed.

Cooperation with cities, municipalities, social services, and hundreds of volunteers across the country played a significant role in the project’s success. Thanks to this collaboration, assistance was successfully delivered even to places where it was previously difficult to access or completely absent.

The project was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and was funded by the Employment Plus Operational Program. Although the project is officially coming to an end, the expansion of the distribution network continues. The vision of the Czech Federation of Food Banks is clear—to ensure the availability of a food aid distribution point in every city in the Czech Republic by 2033.
